Waxing that offers truly silky hair-free results

About Us

Deva Morgan graduated in Languages in Brazil at the University of Cuiaba where she studied Portuguese and Spanish. After completing her degree Deva discovered her true passion for beauty treatments and embarked on her journey as a beauty entrepreneur.

Deva opened her first beauty salon in Brazil which she kept until moving to London in 2006. In the UK, Deva continued to progress in her career and has successfully completed a qualification as a Beauty Therapist.

Deva moved to Liverpool in 2009 accompanying her husband. Shortly after arriving she opened The Waxing Spa where she built a reputation as an exceptional professional who offers personalised and relaxing treatments.

Deva’s interest in pursuing a healthy life style and her strive to use natural and sustainable products have encouraged her to develop her own waxing formula which is extremely popular amongst her clients.

The covid pandemic forced Deva’s business to remain closed for several months and she used this opportunity to relocate to larger premises at the heart of Liverpool city centre.

FAQ

Frequently Asked – WAXING

How often should I get waxed?

Every four to five weeks.
Regular waxing is essential. The skin will be less sensitive if waxing is done regularly. Over time the hair follicle will have less and less of a grip on the hair to be pulled and the hairs will come out more easily.

What is recommended before the first waxing?

We recommend not shaving for at least 2.5 to 3 weeks prior to your reservation. After your first wax, we suggest you wax every four to five weeks (This helps remove the hair that was growing underneath the skin at your last appointment).

For how long the results can last?

After your first waxing, the results can last 2 to 3 weeks depending on the individual’s hair re-growth rate. In most cases, hair growth is minimal during the first week or two and noticeably increases in the third and fourth week.

Any restrictions?

Don’t schedule around that time of the month.

Don’t schedule a wax within three days prior to your period. Your skin tends to be extra sensitive during that time.

Take a shower and exfoliate beforehand.

Any important tips?

This may seem obvious, but it’s worth a reminder. You’ll feel less self-conscious if you suds up at least 24 hours before your bikini waxing session. Even better, taking a warm shower (or bath!) right beforehand softens your pores, making the actual process less painful. In the days leading up to your appointment, give your body a good scrub with a mild exfoliant.

Plan your outfit (and day) accordingly.

Post-wax, your skin is often red and sensitive. Wear loose clothing to your appointment so you’ll be comfy afterwards. For the rest of the day, you should steer clear of applying too much friction from tight-fitting clothing or exercise, lest you may wind up with even more irritation or ingrown hair in the waxed area. The less heat you bring to the area, the better.
Good news: The redness should go away overnight.

Plan post-wax pain management.

The fastest way to soothe post-waxing irritation is to apply an over-the-counter hydrocortisone cream.
It calms inflammation, quells itchiness and reduces redness.

Will the sun boost hair growth?

Yes, the sun and heat do boost hair growth

The summer season has a beneficial impact on the growth of your hair due to extended periods of sun and higher temperatures. The warmer weather boosts the supply of nutrients needed for keratin production. The production of this protein (essential for hair growth ) is increased and your hair grows faster.

Can the hair be too long?

If you haven’t waxed or shaved for over 2 months we recommend to slight trim it so the wax can reach your skin. Trim it leaving around 1inch long as we will need a good length so the wax can stick on properly as the hair is mostly likely to be strong and will need a good grip to be able to remove it.

3. Laser Hair Removal

WHAT IS LASER HAIR REMOVAL
Laser hair removal is the most effective method of hair removal available, permanently reducing hair growth by up to 90%, leaving you with smoother skin. Suitable for men and women and all skin tones, almost anywhere on the entire body can be treated, including sensitive areas such as the face and bikini line. Unlike other methods such as waxing, depilatory creams and shaving, laser hair removal gives long lasting results, without the ingrown hairs and irritation associated. The hair will also become finer and softer so it’s less visible, and growth will slow down more with each treatment.

FAQ

Frequently Asked – LASER

HOW DOES LASER HAIR REMOVAL WORK?
Laser hair removal works by photo thermolysis, the use of brief pulses of light and heat energy to damage or destroy hair follicles, preventing regrowth.

The laser emits light energy which is absorbed by the melanin in the hair. This targets the hair roots beneath the skin at specific stages of their growth cycles, damaging the bulb and preventing regrowth, a process called photo thermolysis. This is why we recommend at least 6 sessions, spaced 4-8 weeks apart, to ensure all follicles are targeted at the right time.

The system emits near-infrared laser light that is absorbed by the melanin located in the hair follicle. The laser is pulsed for only a fraction of a second, and the duration of each pulse is long enough to damage the follicle without damaging the surrounding tissue.

The equipment we use has a unique, patented contact-cooling hand piece, that protects the skin by offering conductive cooling during the laser delivery.

WHY ARE WE OFFERING LASER TREATMENTS?
Laser Hair removal is becoming increasingly popular nowadays, and as we specialise in hair removal services, it seems only fitting that we offer a treatment that provides permanent hair removal options aswell.
As you know, we love finding out what our clients think, so after lots of clients showing interests it was really clear that a big majority  were really interested in having laser hair removal treatments but either wanted to know more about it, or wanted to go somewhere that they trusted.

So, after over 2 years of research, we have finally found the equipment that we feel really confident in, and comfortable adding to THE WAXING SPA services list.

WHAT LASER HAIR REMOVAL TECHNOLOGY DO WE USE ?
We use the Dio-Ice’s Triple Wavelengths (755 Alexandrite – 808 Diode – 1064 ND Yag) offers the three most effective laser hair removal wavelengths on the market, simultaneously working in unison. Allowing us to safely treat ALL Skin types and target hair growths at different stages for optimum, quick results.
The triple wavelength is considered the Gold Standard in Laser Hair Removal for the face and body. The removal process is very significant, painless and comfortable.
Diode Laser Hair Removal provides enhanced comfort during treatment, minimal risk of infection, speed and accuracy and also minimises skin irritation that other methods may create. Diode Laser is a precise instrument, with light parameters that can be adjusted to damage only the hair follicle, while minimally affecting the surrounding skin.
Painless treatment
CE Medical Approved Device
Suitable for ALL skin types
Medical grade class 4 laser

3 wavelengths: 755 Alexandrite, 808 Diode, 1064 ND Yag

WHAT SKIN/HAIR TYPE DOES YOUR LASER HAIR REMOVAL WORKS ON?

It never felt right to us, to have equipment that wasn’t suitable for everyone. So we waited until we found the machine that could be fully inclusive.

The Dio-Ice’s triple wavelength technology allows for the treatment of all different skin types which is why we have chosen this specific equipment.
755 Alexandrite is perfect for light coloured skin and fair hair.
808 Diode is the classic wavelength used by most Laser Hair removal units and is suitable for most skin and hair types.

1064 ND Yag is used to treat darker and/or tanned skin tones that have lower melanin absorption.

HOW MANY LASER SESSIONS WILL I NEED ?

Most clients get up to 80% hair reduction within 6-8 sessions minimum

The number of treatments you require, depends so much on your hair type. Darker, more coarse hair will see results quicker than fair hair for instance.
Treatments need to be carried out 4-8 weeks apart depending on hair growth cycle and some clients may need up to 12 treatments. This varies for each individual person.

Laser hair removal won’t work on ‘fluffy’ hair or hair without pigment, so extremely fair hair which means you may have great results but be left with some fluffy hair still that cannot be removed.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF LASER HAIR REMOVAL?
Reduces hair growth, permanently – We recommend a minimum of 6 sessions. If you have the recommended number of treatments for your hair and skin type, you’ll see up to 90% hair reduction. Any hair that does grow back will be much finer and will grow back less frequently, which means smoother skin for longer.
No more ingrown hairs – You won’t need to shave as frequently, minimising rashes or brittle stubble, and less waxing will also result in fewer ingrown hairs too
Money and time saving – The average female spends £6500 on razors and 8 weeks of her life shaving, so laser hair removal is a worthwhile long-term investment.
Improved skin tone and texture.
A positive impact on the planet – The average woman in her lifetime throws away 2400 razors, and every year, approximately 2 billion razors end up in landfill as they cannot be recycled. Switching to laser hair removal will dramatically reduce that negative impact on our planet.
Can any skin type have laser hair removal?

We can treat any skin type, ranging from very fair to very dark. Our lasers work with most hair and skin combinations, provided that it is not Velus hair, or there is enough pigment in the hair, i.e. it is dark enough to attract the laser. This means you are unlikely to see results if you have white, blonde, grey or red hair.

HOW LONG DOES THE RESULTS WILL LAST?
Ideally forever with few sessions yearly to maintain hair free skin
Everybody’s hair and skin is different and generally speaking, laser is a long term hair removal option. However, if you go through significant hormonal changes such as Pregnancy, Menopause or change in medication – this can have an impact on your hair regrowth and some hair may grow back
ARE THERE ANY SIDES EFFECT?

You could experience temporary side effects such as itchy skin, redness, mild swelling of the follicle or mild irritation. But these are all perfectly normal after Laser Hair Removal treatment.

We can stress the importance of following the correct prep and aftercare to receive maximum results with minimal side effects to the treatment.

CAN I HAVE LASER HAIR REMOVAL TREATMENT WHILE ON MEDICATION?

Certain medications can cause photo-sensitivity to the skin and this may affect the skin’s reaction to the treatment. These medications are but not limited to oral and topical vitamin A’s, antibiotics, and certain anti-depressants. It is best to speak with your medical professional and obtain medical clearance. After obtaining medical clearance, we are able to test patch you with the laser to determine it is safe to commence treatment.

HOW LONG DO I HAVE TO LEAVE IT BETWEEN LASER HAIR HAIR REMOVAL TREATMENTS?

This really depending on your hair and skin type as well as the area being treated. We would recommend you have treatments every 4-6 weeks.
Each part of the body has a different hair growth cycle, so the hair loss will vary depending on what phase your follicles are in at the time of treatment.

WHAT DO I HAVE TO DO BEFORE HAVING LASER HAIR REMOVAL TREATMENTS?

Pre and post treatment care for laser is just as important as the treatment itself. Follow the below guidelines to help us achieve the best results possible.

Shave the treatment area the night before your treatment.
Do not have any types of chemical peels or laser resurfacing treatments for at least 4 weeks before your treatment
Exfoliate the treatment area approx. least 3 days before your treatment
Make sure you don’t have any fake tan residue on the skin.
Do not use sun beds or lay in the sun for at least 3-4 weeks prior to having your laser treatment. This includes any tanning pills/drugs or enhancers
Do not apply any creams/lotions/potions or perfume on the area that is being treated, on the day of your treatment.

Avoid waxing, plucking or hair removal creams for 4 weeks prior to treatment to get the best results.

WHAT AFTER CARE DO I NEED TO FOLLOW?

Please follow the below aftercare to help us achieve the best results possible:

For 2 days post treatment, you must avoid hot showers, shaving, waxing and any kind of plucking in the area. Also, you need to avoid excessive sweating for a few days too, so definitely no steam or saunas.
Using daily SPF is super important, especially on the face, and avoid direct sunlight for up to 4 weeks.
Applying an after-laser moisturiser really will help keep your skin hydrating and help with soothing, calming and cooling the skin.

Please don’t exfoliate for approx. a week, however exfoliating a couple of times per week will really help with your results and getting super soft skin at the same time.

Also, you should not WAXING during your laser hair removal treatment at any time as Laser hair removal works on the papilla and hair bulge, they are the  main target of laser which is usually removed if  you do get waxed or pluck your hair .
CAN I HAVE LASER HAIR REMOVAL TREATMENT WHILE I AM ON MY PERIOD?

Yes you can. Please just use a fresh tampon, or menstrual cup if you are having your Intimate area treated

WHAT ARE THE AGE RESTRICTIONS FOR LASER HAIR REMOVAL TREATMENT?

We only treat clients who are over 18 at THE WAXING SPA. This is our policy and is in line with our insurance requirements also

CAN I HAVE LASER HAIR REMOVAL TREATMENT WHILE I AM PREGNANT?

There is no link connecting Laser Hair Removal to negative effects on pregnant women or when breastfeeding. However, there is also no evidence to guarantee it is actually a safe treatment to have during this time either.

However, because there are no long-term studies and due to the delicate nature of pregnancy, it has been recommended by most professional that laser hair removal is postponed until after the birth of the baby. And at THE WAXING SPA,  we whole heartedly agree with this and feel it is always best to  on the side of caution when it comes to the health and welfare of both mum and baby.
When it comes to breastfeeding, the problem lies with the hormones and the affect that hormones have on your hair growth. The Laser itself won’t cause you or your baby any problems, however we cannot guarantee a great result.
Our word of advice on this would be to wait 12 weeks post labour before continuing or starting your Laser course. This is because the hair growth can change so much during and after labour and we want you to get the best results possible. Let your body heal and rest up, and then once you have passed the 12-week period, this would be the right time to get on with your Laser again, or even start it.
If you are troubled by excess hair growth during pregnancy, we recommend more temporary hair removal solutions such as waxing. Once you have given birth and past your initial 12 weeks, we are happy to re-commence your Laser Hair Removal sessions or start your course of treatment.

We would also always recommend a patch test post labour, even if you have had laser hair removal before. The body goes through so many changes, and we would want to be sure that you aren’t going to have any kind of reactions.
